Florida dropped the 2nd game of the scheduled 4 game series with a 5-4 late inning loss to the Atlanta Braves. The Marlins are now stuck in a 3 game losing streak and are also down 2 game to 0 in their current series. They now look at a 31-26 record and sit in 2nd place in the NL East just 2.5 games behind the division leading Phillies.
The Marlins had the game in hand once again against the Braves but when the bottom of the 8th came Atlanta drove in 2 runs to take the 5-4 lead. Florida’s offense got most of it’s production from one man who goes by the name of Dan Uggla. In the game he went 2-for-3 with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored. Uggla went deep 2 times, once in the 2nd and again in the 4th. The 2 homers give him 18 for the season and his RBI count now stands at 41. The only other RBI came off the bat of Jorge Cantu who went 1-for-3 with 1 RBI. The RBI is his 29th and his batting average now sits at .267. Hanley Ramirez pitched in as well going 1-for-3 including a double with 1 run scored and a walk. He now has his batting average at .292 and his double total is at 9.
Burke Badenhop took the mound for the Marlins and worked a shaky 5 inning. In that time he allowed 3 hits, 3 runs, all earned, 5 walks and 1 homer. Matt Lindstrom was given the loss for the game though as he pitched just 1/3rd inning giving up 3 hits, 2 runs and 1 walk. The loss gives him a record of 1-1 this season and because the Marlins had the lead when he pitched he will also receive his 1st blown save for the year.
Just another game where the Marlins couldn’t close the deal in the late innings. Hopefully they can get things together and take the final 2 games of the series and even it at 2 games a piece.
