The Marlins and Braves records look backward as the Marlins topped the Braves 6-5. That pushed Florida to a 9-5 record while the Braves sit a rather pedestrian 5-9. The big hit of the game was a seventh inning two run homer by Luis Gonzalez and while the runs were insurance at the time, they proved to be the pivotal ones.
Mike Jacobs had just one hit but it was his sixth long ball of the season. Hanley Ramirez singled twice and he drove in a pair.
Mark Hendrickson improved to 3-1 with a solid start. He gave up three runs (two earned) on six hits and three walks with one strikeout in 5 1/3 innings. Matt Lindstrom gave up a pair in his relief appearance but Kevin Gregg pitched a shutout ninth with two strikeouts and he picked up his third save of the season.
Ricky Nolasco gets the start tomorrow as the Marlins go for win number ten. John Smoltz gets the start for the Braves.
