Miguel Cabrera had a huge opening day today in the Marlins 9-2 win over the Washington Nationals. He walked in the first inning, doubled in two in the second, hit a two run shot in the fourth and then walked again in the sixth. He later singled in the seventh and he didn’t make his last out until he grounded to short to make the final out of the game.
Hanley Ramirez also had a very nice game. He doubled twice, singled twice and scored four times. Dan Uggla homered and Alejandro De Aza scored twice in his major league debut.
Not to be outdone by the offense, Dontrelle Willis threw a very nice game. He gave up two runs (one earned) on seven hits. He only walked one, which was encouraging, and he struck out three. Three relievers then combined for three no hit innings as the Nationals were held in check.
Tomorrow, Scott Olsen takes mound and hopefully the Marlins can make it two in a row.
