The Marlins got some solid hitting this weekend as they took two of three over the Phillies. Things didn’t get off to a good start though. Sergio Mitre gave up five runs (just one earned) on six hits and a walk with six strikeouts in six innings of work. Ricky Nolasco then gave up three in his relief appearance as the Marlins lost 8-2. Hanley Ramirez (more on him) hit a solo homerun and Miguel Oliva tripled home Mike Jacobs to account for the two Marlins runs.
The Marlins got the bats going on Saturday though. Josh Willingham had a big game with a homerun and four RBIs while Mike Jacobs doubled twice and scored twice in the 8-5 win. Dontrelle Willis improved to 2-0 and he gave up three runs on seven hits and two walks with nine strikeouts. Jorge Julio gave Marlins’ fans a scare when he gave up two in the ninth but fortunately they had a nice enough cushion to walk away with the win.
In the rubber game, Scott Olsen improved to 2-0 with five decent innings. He gave up three runs on four hits and four walks with three strikeouts in the 6-4 win. Mike Jacobs hit a solo homerun and Miguel Cabrera went two for four with an RBI. The bad news coming out of this one is that Ramirez came out of the game with an injured hamstring. It looks like Ramirez will miss todays game. Josh Willingham missed Sunday because of a sore back. You just hate to see all of these minor injuries creeping up so early.
So the Marlins site tied with the Mets at 4-2 and a game back of the 5-1 Braves. The Brewers roll into town and the series opener will be tonight.
