We’re two weeks into the season and the Marlins still sit in first place in the NL East. Not too bad for a team that was predicted to stick in the cellar all year. I know there’s still a lot of games to be played, but it’s cool seeing the Marlins back on top. In fact they’re the only team in the division to have a winning record as the Phillies and Mets sit a game and a half back each.
Burke Badenhop lost his major league start this afternoon. He gave up four runs on seven hits and a walk with three strikeouts in five innings of work. Matt Lindstrom gave up his first earned run in six relief appearances to round out the damage against.
Josh Willingham belted his third homer of the season and that was it in the 5-1 loss. Cody Ross had a nice game with two singles and a double in four at bats.
Losing two of three to a last place team isn’t all that encouraging but the struggling Braves roll into town. Scott Olsen gets the start against Jair Jurrjens. Olsen hasn’t given up many hits (.220 batting average against) but his 7/6 strikeout to walk ratio needs some work. Still, I like our chances against a rookie pitcher.
