Things got off to a good start on Monday when the Marlins took their series opener with the Brewers 5-3. Miguel Cabrera hit a three run homerun and Anibal Sanchez had a nice start in the win. Sanchez gave up just three runs on eight hits and three walks in six innings of work. Unfortunately, it went downhill from there.
Tuesday’s game ended up being suspended after ten innings with the game tied 2-2. It was finished yesterday and the Marlins ended up losing it in thirteen innings. Jorge Julio blew another save when he gave up the game tying run in the ninth and the Marlins rang up only two runs. Mike Jacobs singled home a run and Dan Uggla drove home Alejandro De Aza with a sac. fly.
The in the final last night, the Marlins managed only two more runs. Miguel Carbera and Joe Borchard each hit solo homeruns in the 5-2 loss and Sergio Mitre dropped to 0-2. He gave up four runs on ten hits and three walks with two strikeouts in six innings.
The good news is, the Marlins are still a game above .500 but the downer is, they’re already 2 1/2 games back of the Braves. The better news is that the Marlins can make some of those games up because they travel to Atlanta for a three game series with the Braves beginning Friday. It’ll be Dontrelle Willis versus former Marlins start Mark Redman in the series opener.
